Well the big news around here right now is the arrival of a new litter of
10 labradoodle pups, born early in the morning on Easter Sunday (April 24th 2011).
This is very much a ‘bitter-sweet’ litter for us, as it will be Trixie’s last. Because this is the fourth litter for Trixie and Andre, we have a good idea of what the adult dogs will be like. Take a look at the gallery for an indication of what the pups look like as they mature. We are also happy to provide you with referrals from current owners if you wish.
Seven of the pups in the current litter display the distinct black and tan phantom pattern of their parents (four females and three males); two are gold (males) and one a beautiful cream colour (a female). The lighter coloured pups reflect the ancestry of their parents, both of whom have apricot or brown/red parents. Breeders note: the lighter coloured pups are still genetically homozygous for the recessive phantom Agouti allele, but the impact of the pattern is less apparent against the lighter background colour. If you are looking for a breeding animal please let us know as soon as possible. Animals sold with breeding rights are more expensive so are usually only sought by people wishing to use them in their breeding programmes. As they are paying more and they have specific requirements breeders do get to choose their animals first, and we reserve the right to assign an animal to a breeder despite prior interest up to the fifth week from birth. Animals sold with breeding rights are provided with full pedigree and genotype information and advice on how to use this genetic information in your breeding programme if you are interested.
We are building a waiting list so we suggest that if you would like to own one of these special pups, please register your interest as soon as you can. You can register your expression of interest by clicking here and filling out your details, call us (03-325-2779) or Email (k.bicknell@xtra.co.nz).
Breeding pups are available for $1,800, pets for $950.
We do not release the pups until they are eight weeks old as that is the best time for them to be weaned and the ideal time for them to bond to a new family. If you select a pup and want us to reserve it for you we require a $350 deposit. We are very reluctant to hold pups after 8 weeks. It’s not really fair on them as their litter mates are gone, their mother is ready to get on with her own life and the pup will be looking to bond to a new family (which should be their new owners not us). We have under exceptional circumstances held pups beyond the eighth week but we do charge a kennel fee for this service.
